The Two Types of Mindset Affecting Your Ability to Lead

It may surprise you to know that mindset is actually a critical aspect of leadership. Your mindset impacts how you feel, how you act, and the results you achieve. You may not know it but there are two types of leadership mindsets that can affect your capabilities at work. The first, we call a Typical Mindset. The second, we call a Leadership Success Mindset®.

Understanding a little bit about each of these two types of mindset can help you understand how your mental habits—your patterns of thinking—are influencing where you think from. With that level of awareness, you’ll begin to understand how your mindset is affecting your work.

You may be wondering:

  • What’s the difference between a Typical Mindset and a Leadership Success Mindset®?

  • How is my mindset holding me back?

  • What can I do to cultivate a more proactive mindset?

How You Perceive Your Environment Plays a Role in How You Take Action

Mindset work is not just positive thinking—merely replacing negative thoughts with positive ones. It is recognizing what our mind is doing to keep us “safe”—and how it leads us to avoid risk. When you consider the world around you, your relationships, and your goals, do you lean into reactivity or proactivity more? It is pivotal you understand which mindset is dominant in your life.

“Your thoughts are powerful in creating your future.
They impact how you feel, how you act, and the results you achieve.”

Understanding where you think from can help you shape your habits of thinking. It can change how you behave under stress, and how you reach for goals in the long term—which is why our video today is so important. Watch it now:

The Difference Between a Typical Mindset and a Leadership Success Mindset®

Unlike the Typical Mindset (wherein your mindset is influenced by external factors) the Leadership Success Mindset® causes you to continually be learning and benefitting from your circumstances. Whether things are going well or going poorly—your ability to reflect and become curious about your journey will help you to act with greater resolve. The Leadership Success Mindset® enables you to act independently of external factors outside of your control.

“Developing a ‘Leadership Success Mindset®’ enables you to be proactive—to show up powerfully and to act independently of external factors outside of your control.”

Recognizing Your Dominant Mindset is Critical To Your Success

Each person shifts between a Typical Mindset and the Leadership Success Mindset®—the key is understanding where you think from most often. With that understanding, you’ll be able to engage habits of thinking that are beneficial to you. You’ll become more creative and innovative in coming up with solutions, and your success will be inevitable.
