What it Looks Like to “Create a Listening” for Your Leader

Leaders are often focused on advancing and advocating for multiple priorities and initiatives within the organization. These create the framework through which they evaluate new requests and proposals. When you communicate the connection between your proposals and your leader’s priorities, you begin to “create a listening”.

However, communicating these connections is insufficient. What may be missing is a foundational relationship of trust, respect, and thorough appreciation of the things that are important to your leader. Once your leader knows that you value what’s important to them and that your ideas and recommendations help them solve those problems, you will have a greater likelihood of getting an “easy-yes”.
